The most recent version of the environmental management system requirements was published in 2015, and is referred to as “ISO.” The standard was agreed upon by a majority of member countries before being released and updated, and as such it has become an internationally recognized standard accepted by a majority of countries. The ISO 14000 family of standards concerns environmental management, giving you practical tools for managing your environmental responsibilities. ISO is the most up-to-date version of ISO's EMS standards.

• ISO 14001 Internested Parties (Section 4.2) is a new subclause introduced in ISO. Identifying interested parties is critical to help determine the scope of the EMS within your organization.
• ISO 14001, is the latest Environmental Management Systems (EMS) standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization, in September 2015. It is the third published ISO EMS standard. Prior to this, ISO was the accepted international standard for EMS.

What industries implement ISO 14001:2015?

Certification to the Environmental Management Standard lasts for three years and is subject to mandatory audits to ensure that you are compliant. However, if you transition from 2004 to the 2015 version during your certification cycle it does not restart the three-year cycle. Deadline for organisations that are certified to the 2004 standard have until September 2018 to update to the new version of the standard.
